As part of Homebrew Havoc, I was asked to create the official character art. At the start of last year, I had three of the four pieces complete, but one was delayed due to difficulty getting a proper description, and then the subsequent complexity of the piece. Given that our sessions were ultimately so sporadic I never ended up finishing or showing the art in full, I thought that perhaps these would just wind up forgotten on my hard drive.
However, with the revival of Homebrew Havoc and the launch of Tales from Tordronnen, the characters were given a new lease of life and have now been released into the world!
For your delectation, here is the Homebrew Havoc: Tales from Tordronnen art:
Mercy and Fallon were the easiest to create, as they most closely resemble Humans and are therefore simple to find references for. Shiv (who plays Fallon) helpfully sent me lost of images as references for potential clothes for him, and gave me a lot of leeway with regards to how I ended up putting him together. With Mercy being my own character, setting her up with a look was pretty simple. Rhogar was an interesting one, and I ended up using a lot of references from Hero Forge, as well as images of lizards. I also spent a fair bit of time studying basic plate armours, looking for interesting shapes and fitting methods that would work with digitigrade legs! Quizz was by far the hardest, as I had to calculate the ratio of neck to body in order to keep the appearance of a llama fairly believable. He also had the most complex clothing description, which stumped me for quite a while as I tried to replicate everything within it. In the end, I went with me own clothing design, but used initial colour requests and kept some details, such as the beret and scarf.
I am about to embark upon a High-Low painting of Mercy, which will definitely be an interesting one to complete. I've drawn a Tiefling before, but the horns were more upright, so shadows weren't much of a concern. However, Mercy's horns curl about the back of her head, which could bring up some interesting issues to contend with...
